Spinal and extra spinal manipulation is the most common discomfort reliving technique utilized at Price Chiropractic Center. This procedure involves a physical adjustment of your musculoskeletal system performed by the doctor in a private and comfortable setting.
The chiropractic adjustment is a procedure in which Dr. Price utilizes specific training developed during his chiropractic college studies, post-graduate education and over 30 years of experience to isolate specific parts of the spine that are not functioning properly, may have some kind of a nerve impingement like a pinched nerve, or are stuck or locked.
The doctor then utilizes his hands or an instrument to adjust the vertebra, usually at the joint and/or the disc, at the precise areas of the spine to restore proper motion, function and decrease the nerve impingement. The adjustment is designed to help improve overall function, improve overall mobility, improve nerve function, and reduce pain and muscular spasming or weakness.
The adjustment is a highly controlled specific procedure that rarely causes discomfort. There are many types of chiropractic adjustment techniques that Dr. Price uses. Some of these may involve actual joint manipulation where you will hear a “popping” or a “cracking” noise. In simple terms, this noise is the release of gas between the joints causing a popping sound similar to that which occurs when you crack your knuckles. The noise is the result of the rapid, almost instantaneous change in pressure within the joint.
Other techniques Dr. Price uses involve very gentle manipulation in which there is no popping or cracking, which may be through the use of specifically designed tables or hand-held instruments that cause a gradual movement of the vertebra rather than the instant-type of movement that results in the noise.
His extensive training guides him through your thorough evaluation and comprehensive examination to determine the types of techniques that will be most effective for your type of problem. Factors that Dr. Price considers include age, injury/history, the condition of your spine as determined by the examination and possibly by x-rays, prior surgical history, the type of trauma you might have been involved in, the presence or absence of an osteoporosis history, as well as many other factors. Based on Dr Price’s extensive experience, he will determine the type of procedures that will be most effective for your treatment and may alter those depending upon your response, comfort level and the type of progress we are making.
Most importantly, Dr. Price individualizes your care and techniques for your rehabilitation so that he can use the most up-to-date and effective treatments to assure your progress is as rapid, cost-effective and painless as possible.
